Before arriving at Salford, initially as an external examiner, Mark worked in theatre, secondary schools, further education, arts centres, operating theatres and as a Sales & Stock Manager for Christian Salvesen.
Appointed as Head of Performance in 1987 ~ Mark established the Aspects Touring Company which by 1992 had garnered praise from national critics for their uniquely eclectic 'total theatre', won awards at Edinburgh, played residencies at the Green Room, ran a bustling venue at the Edinburgh Fringe, and had two original pieces of work filmed and broadcast by Granada TV. Mark also led the team on the pioneering BTEC Higher National Diploma in Performing Arts (Media Performance). The terms Media Performance and Media Performer did not exist prior to 1991, and Salford was first to recognise the realistic nature of a performer's life in the post-modern world. Multi-skilling, an emphasis on holistic experiential learning, finding alternative strategies ~ remain key features of all the degree programmes at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
In over 20 years at Salford Mark has been Head of Performance, Programme Leader HND Media Performance, and Performance Co-ordinator. He is currently leading the Performing Arts programme. Audere est facere & Per Ardua Ad Astra.

Research is confined to that which 'happens' in the 'taught' workshops. How may one quantify that which is qualitative?
