Julia Wilson graduated from Nottingham Polytechnic in 1991 with an honours degree in Creative Arts. She went on to gain a distinction in her Masters in Contemporary Arts from MMU and has been teaching at the University of Salford since 1997. Before taking up her post at Salford, Julia worked as a freelance performer/devisor, director and educator.
Julia has devised and toured her own work, the most recent being the multimedia piece 'Some/Body' (2006) as well as working with companies such as The Chameleon Performance Company, Reckless Sleepers and Index Theatre Company, touring nationally and internationally.
She has organised and run a number of TIE projects in Nottingham, London and Salford and directed performances for The International Expressionist Festival and The Boddington Festival, Manchester.
She also worked as co-coordinator for the Quarter Club at the Green Room, Manchester, organising show case events for new performance work.
Julia's current research interests include multimedia practices, contemporary devising methodologies and contemporary debates around notions of presence.
Julia is currently Programme Leader for HND Media Performance. She is also the external examiner for BA (Hons) Contemporary Theatre and performance at UCLAN.
She is a member of TaPRA and New Work Net Work.
