Chris (CP) Lee is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies. He graduated with honours from Manchester Polytechnic in 1989. In 1995 he was awarded his PhD by the Institute of Popular Culture and has been teaching at the University of Salford since 1992.
As well as his teaching, Chris has written and presented a series of documentaries for BBC R4 on topics ranging from Regional Filmmaking to Northern Soul and has appeared on many documentaries for both BBC and Channel 4 television. His published work includes chapters published in historical journals, academic textbooks and books on Popular Culture. He is the author of five books - Like The Night: Bob Dylan and Manchester's Free Trade Hall - Shake, Rattle & Rain: Popular Music Making in Manchester 1955/1995 - Like A Bullet Of Light: The Films of Bob Dylan, a personal memoir When We Were Thin and, most recently, in collaboration with Dr Andrew Willis, The Lost World of Cliff Twemlow. He is also the leading expert on North-West film and curates a website that acts as an open-access resource for the history of the Mancunian Film Studio (www.itsahotun.com).In 2007 Chris organized the first International Comedy Conference at the University of Salford and this has since become an annual event. Sought after for his advice and expertise on Film, Comedy and Music for exhibitions and events at a variety of Museums and Art Centres around the UK, he is a permanent consultant/director of the Manchester District Music Archive (www.mdmarchive.co.uk) and adviser/interviewer for BECTU’s Oral history project for the National Film and Television Archive.
