I joined University of Salford in 2008 to programme lead the MA in Documentary Production and since then have also taken on the MA in Wildlife Documentary Production.
My background in media began in the edit suites of Cosgrove Hall Productions and from there I moved to the BBC in Birmingham for a short stint before taking up a staff position at Granada TV as an editor. I moved from editing to research where I worked on many Arts Documentaries as well as factual programming.
I became a director / producer continuing to produce arts documentaries and observational documentaries for Granada TV. In 2000 I moved to the BBC where I worked in the Factual Entertainment department.
In 2004 I began working for the National Media Museum in Bradford where I worked with young people developing filmmaking skills and techniques whist also producing programmes in the museum’s multi-camera studio. During my time at the National Media Museum I also taught Directing and Producing modules at both the University of Chester and the University of Salford with the undergraduates.
I then came back across the Pennines to work at Urbis as the Media Content Producer for two years developing a media remit for the institution, developing workshops and summer schools focusing on media and film-making with young people. In 2006 / 2007 (whilst at Urbis) I produced two documentaries for Granada TV Regional Programming Department.
I currently co-direct exposures: new talent in moving image festival. exposures festival is collaboration between the University and Cornerhouse, Manchester. www.exposuresfestival.co.uk
I am a member of the RTS Northwest Committee and a member of the Nations and Regions Media Conference committee.
