About - MediaCityUKThe School of Media, Music and Performance (MMP) has been at the forefront of new and innovative developments in creative education for over 20 years.

With around 2100 students and some 100 staff, we are one of the UK’s largest and most successful higher education providers in the subject areas of media, music and performance.

Comprising of four directorates – Creative Media, Journalism and Communications, Music, Performance – MMP enjoys an outstanding reputation for our wide range of innovative foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, most of which are practice-based.

The university has made a major investment into MediaCityUK at Salford Quays and the School of Media, Music and Performance is a significant player in this development. Our media and journalism programmes are based at MediaCityUK in a unique position that places us alongside the BBC, ITV and the Daily Telegraph, to name a few, in a campus location that will allow our students to interact and work in the context of the broader industry.

Three distinct research centres

MediaCityUK has also helped equip the School with state-of-the-art facilities, including our high-tech Digital Performance Laboratory, that are unrivalled by any higher education institution in the UK, if not Europe.

Engagement is central to what we do. This engagement sees us working extensively with industry partners across the country and beyond at all levels. Our students are naturally part of this.

The International Media Centre is at the heart of our engagement with the media and creative industries and home to the internationally renowned Nations and Regions Conference.

Our innovative and varied research portfolio is driven by three distinct research centres – the Communication, Cultural and Media Studies Research Centre, the Salford Music Research Centre, and the Performance Research Centre.

If you are considering undergraduate or postgraduate study/research, or collaboration through knowledge transfer partnership or continued professional development, please get in touch to find out how the School of Media, Music and Performance can cater for your needs.
